Cultural Agility Webinar for MBDA UK

Cultural Agility: Your Competitive Advantage in the Workplace

In June 2026, I delivered a webinar on cultural agility for MBDA, focusing on practical strategies to lead and collaborate effectively in multicultural environments. As a public speaker and corporate facilitator specializing in leadership, communication, and cultural agility, I design these sessions to deliver actionable insights that help teams and organizations turn cultural diversity into a real competitive advantage.

Understanding Culture and the Cultural Iceberg

We began by exploring the true meaning of culture through the Cultural Iceberg model. While visible aspects like language, food, or customs are important, the deeper, often invisible elements—values, beliefs, communication styles, and decision-making norms—shape how we behave and interact at work. Recognizing this complexity is essential for building inclusive, high-performing teams.

Unconscious Bias and Its Influence on Thinking

A significant portion of the session addressed how unconscious bias influences our perceptions and interactions. I covered three key types relevant to cross-cultural settings:

  1. Cultural bias: Judging others through the lens of our own cultural norms as the “standard.”

  2. Affinity bias: The natural preference for people who share similar backgrounds or traits.

  3. Halo/Horn Effect: Allowing one positive or negative trait to overshadow an entire assessment of a person.

Through examples and discussion, participants gained awareness of how these biases can hinder collaboration and what mindful practices can mitigate them.

Cultural Mapping: The Importance of Adaptation

We then examined cultural mapping and how our cultural backgrounds influence key workplace behaviors—leadership styles, feedback, communication, and conflict resolution. Real-life examples illustrated why the ability to adapt while staying authentic is crucial in multicultural environments and situations. Participants reflected on their own cultural influences and identified opportunities to become more flexible in their approaches.

The CULTURE Framework for Building Agility

The webinar concluded with my signature CULTURE Framework, which provides actionable behaviors to develop cultural agility daily:

- Connect – Build authentic relationships across differences

- Unlearn – Challenge outdated assumptions and mitigate biases

- Listen – Practice deep, empathetic listening

- Think different – Embrace diverse perspectives for innovation

- Understand – Seek comprehension before judgment

- Reframe – Shift viewpoints to see opportunities

- Educate yourself and others – Commit to ongoing learning and sharing

This toolkit equips leaders and team members with concrete actions they can implement right away to foster inclusion and performance.

The session was interactive, with polls and participants’ sharing that enriched the conversation and highlighted the relevance of these concepts to MBDA’s global operations.

As someone who has lived in 9 countries and worked across multiple continents, I’m passionate about helping organizations harness cultural agility to drive innovation and team success. If your company is seeking a keynote speaker, workshop facilitator, or corporate trainer on leadership, inclusive communication, DEI, or cultural agility in Asia Pacific or beyond, I’d love to collaborate.
